CHANGELOG
What’s new in
Device Helm.
Every beta release, newest first. The app tells you when a new one is available.
Safer updates.
- Download Update now downloads the update inside Device Helm and checks it before opening it: the file must match its published checksum, and the app inside must be signed with the same certificate as the copy you have installed. If a check fails, the file is deleted and never opened.
- Updates are only accepted from devicehelm.com.
- Device Helm is now built with macOS’s hardened runtime, which stops other software from injecting code into it. Your Accessibility permission carries over.
Support for Xcode 27 and Device Hub.
- Fixed setup checks never finishing on macOS 27 with Xcode 27.
- Works with Device Hub, which replaces the Simulator app in Xcode 27. Start Workspace opens Device Hub’s compact window and tiles it with the rest of your workspace.
- The Simulator picker lists the simulators installed in Device Hub first.
- Start Workspace waits for the Simulator window to appear before arranging windows. If it can’t find the window, the workspace still starts and Re-tile stays available.
- Re-tile picks the window showing your device, even when Simulator and Device Hub are both open.
A dedicated address for feedback.
- Send Feedback and Support now go to hello@devicehelm.com.
Signed releases, so permissions survive updates.
- Releases are now signed with the same developer signature every time, so macOS keeps Device Helm’s Accessibility permission when you update.
- New Send Feedback command in Settings and the menu bar. It opens a pre-filled email you can review before sending.
- Settings now explains exactly what stays on your Mac and what the app connects to.
- A first look at Compass, marked “Soon”.
A new window layout, optional Web Inspector, and a sturdier start.
- The window is now split into Workspace, Location, and Settings, with ⌘1, ⌘2, and ⌘, shortcuts.
- Safari Web Inspector is now optional and off by default. With it off, Safari’s developer features aren’t required.
- Setup checks collapse to a single “All set” line once everything passes.
- Starting a workspace shows each step as it happens, with a live indicator once it’s running.
- Favorites and Recents were redesigned, and you can promote a recent location to a favorite.
- Opening a page right after the Simulator boots is retried automatically instead of failing.
- Fixed Safari becoming unresponsive when Device Helm launched it to attach Web Inspector.
Early betas under the Device Helm name.
- Renamed from SimWeb Workspace to Device Helm, with a new icon.
- In-app update checks against devicehelm.com.
- Stability fixes from early testing.
First beta, released as SimWeb Workspace.
- Boot an iOS Simulator, open a URL in its Safari, set a location, attach Safari Web Inspector, and tile the windows together.
